New Month, New Update

Today we are introducing the new version of Listn on the App Store! The update includes usability fixes, Spotify integration and background playing.

Over the next month Listn will be undergoing an overhaul that we think you will really like. More importantly, here is your chance to get involved with Listn and help us build a next generation music experience. Last weekend we went to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival to enjoy a weekend filled with amazing bands and great friends. Amongst our favourite performances were the Wu Tang Clan, Of Monsters and Men, James Blake, Major Lazar and The XX.

A week and a half ago we released Listn beta and the feedback so far has been phenomenal. We are revamping some of the functionality, adding a bunch of cool features and optimizing… well, everything.

Listn Beta OUT NOW!

After 5 months with our heads down we released the beta version this afternoon and the feedback so far has been amazing!

We are already starting to improve some features, adding functionality and speeding up processes.

Last month we promised we would get the app out just in time for the new year and here we are - submitting the app just before the year is out! Hopefully the app will hit the store soon and our early users can start breaking things! It’s all in Apple’s hands now!

DEMO Mobile

In the startup world attention and exposure is everything. Last Thursday we had the amazing opportunity to pitch and get feedback from top VC’s at First Round Capital as apart of a new effort put on by Erick Schonfeld - the executive producer at DEMO.

The trip was great, we had tons of fun and met a lot of great people. We wanted to thank everyone at DEMO and First Round!

Spotify Vs. Listn

Collectively, we’ve pitched Listn to our friends, families and strangers more than 1000 times since Demo Day. After which we are greeted with, “wow, that’s really cool”, then sometimes asked – “how are you different than Spotify”?

Well, Spotify is awesome, but we are very different. Listn is focused entirely on people, whereas Spotify is focused entirely on the music. Even their tag line says it:

“Spotify is a digital music service that gives you access to millions of songs”

My experience as a Spotify user is to find the music I like and add it to my collection. Users can also see what their friends are listening to, but it is secondary to the listening experience. We are agnostic to where the music comes from - so you could share music between friends on Spotify, Rdio, Youtube and Soundcloud!

Piggy backing on the emotional interaction that Instagram users feel when others like or share their pictures, we think that one of the best ways to connect with others is through music. Instragram build’s your profile based on the photo’s you’ve taken, while Listn populates your profile with the songs on your iPod/ iPhone.

A central feature in Listn is ‘hearting’ songs/ albums/ playlists. By hearting songs, you immediately archive them in your Listn profile and notify your friend that you liked their track!

Introducing #Listn

We are launching in the next month and couldn’t be more excited to see what you think of it!

Today, people are sharing more information than ever before. We feel more and more confortable sharing what’s going on in our lives with our friends and those in our social circles. Practically all of us listen to music on our mobile phone and at Listn we think that the music we listen to tells a story about us.

We are launching on the App Store first, but don’t worry Droid’ers, Android is definitely on our to do list!

So, what is Listn?

Listn is about connecting with your friends. Using music as a social medium, your friends can see what music you have on your iPhone!

Simply, sign into the app and Listn will collect all of the music in your iPod or iPhone and build your profile based on those songs. Then, when a friend views your profile they can see all of the music you listen to. Even your playlists are archived. Playing your buddies workout playlist is a tap away!

What about licensing? Well, the guys over at Youtube, Spotify, Rdio and Soundcloud are doing a great job of building music library’s so we simply play your song through one of those!
